Just curious as to what the more industrious of our fossickers here do with the gold they find. Do you stockpile the whole lot? Sell half and keep half? Sell the lot? Keep the lot as a family heirloom? Put in a giant cereal bowl? lol

Would be interested in hearing what others do with the gold they find.... seeing as I'll be doing some serious fossicking myself around the end of the summer, and will no doubt have to face these vexing questions. lol

Not that I've found much yet - but I think I'll be keeping all mine. Not really in it for profit, but actually probably a good investment to have around in case the economy takes a nose dive and inflation spirals out of control or some other worse case scenario.

Yes, that's a good point you make. There is a lot of economic instability these days, and it certainly makes sense to stash some of it away for a rainy west coast day. If I manage to strike the mother-lode, I'd probably look at swapping say half for the paper funny money we use, to live the high life, and re-bury the other half somewhere safe. Better make sure I draw a map in case I forget where it is.... lol

ps. I think the price of gold will continue up even if we get deflation.

Well I have found the best way to add value to your nuggets is to make them into jewellery. Here are a couple of pieces I have done. It takes a bit of time but the results are well worth it.

Nice pics Rex. Gold is highly reflective of light, and I've heard just a small bit can be beaten out extremely fine into thin leaf. I reckon it would be pretty awesome to gild an old fashioned picture frame with a few grams.

Hi Roman I have tried rolling a small nugget but it didnt work very well due to the tiny impurities. It really needs refining first and you need a very high quality roller to get leaf thin. I do buy gold leaf to put in my glass beads sometimes but its very expensive.

I have most of mine in safe deposit but in the past swapped a lot for antique arms, gave a lot away over the years.
I have even played knuckle bones with it!

Today I recommend that anyone who has gold keep it unless you desperately need the money - I hear all the good advice to get rid of it now while the price is high but I am sure that everyone knows that it goes up in value then takes a dive BUT it always tends upward - sort of like the teeth in a saw from the end toward the handle...I keep it all now though would trade for 'THAT' one antique gun I simply could not do without...and there aint many of them!
