Hi Guys, Headed to some old sluiced workings & stumbled on to a bit of a patch. I had left on the minelab commander 11" mono that I havnt taken off for well over a month. It is giving me more depth on old workings that I have have combed over with my smaller mono's. joey, 6" coiltek, 8" commander & 12x7 NF. The depth & sensitivity of the 11" on the small gold has gobsmacked me.
These paticular workings I hadnt detected before. They were pretty over grown with briar rose & thyme bushes & I wasnt too sure how deep to bed rock schist. There were patches of exposed bed rock from the old time miners washing off the overburden & stacks of rocks that didnt appear to be very high sitting on bed rock.
I went over the workings with the 11" first for that extra bit of depth. There were quite a few places that I couldnt get the coil in to due to the bushes but was going to wack on the joey for these areas later.
Total gold for the 11" was 12 pieces for 6.9 grams. Biggest was 1.25 grams & the smallest was .06

I then put on the 10 x 5 joey mono to get in between the bushes & rocks where the 11" couldnt reach & snagged 11 more pieces for 3.95 grams Biggest 1.42 grams & smallest .05.

UserPostedImage

Then put on the 12 x 7 NF mono & went over the workings for the third time. This time only getting 4 pieces for .62 grams

UserPostedImage

All up 27 pieces for the GP 3000 for a total of 11.5 grams. I was pretty happy with that. Been my best haul for a while.

Good luck out there.

JW :)

Well done JW. I bet there are no regrets about not coming up for that wedding. Having spent the day clambering over rocks and pushing through the gorse, I can definitely see the plus side of walking over the hills swinging a coil.

I thought you were either having a bit of time off, or you had hit the big time and keeping mum about it, as you've been quiet for a while.
Great post, waiting for the next one.

Thanks MK for your comment. It is appreciated as well.
It always pays to go over a spot with a number of different size coils once you have found gold. That way you cover all avenues & hopefully leave none behind. Different size coils for different size gold at different depths with the smaller coils having better sensitivity on the smaller gold near the surface & the bigger coils for the better depth on bigger bits that bit further down that the small coils wont get down to. Also approach the area from different angles as the gold could be lying in such a position in the ground that from one direction the coil may not see it but from another direction it will get a whisper. And all you need is that whisper & you are in business. Cheers.

Good luck out there

JW :)

Thanks Mathias, It is getting harder to find.....that is for sure. Doing it tough in the truck. I know you have done the same Up at 6am.....lots & lots of walking.....even in to the night with head lamp on. LOOOOOng days. But I love it, Spring is a great time to be out there. Weather is a bit more mild. Not like roughing it up the Old Man/Woman range in the winter....LOL :)

Good luck out there

JW :)

G'day Garry, My wife videos weddings for a living, edits, adds titling & music etc prints & burns to DVD's. Does the whole package. Often people book two years in advance. As in the one she just did in Whiti City so she was commited to do it. So while the cat was away the mice did play & I was gone for the weekend. While she was up there she checked on our place in Whanga & stayed with some friend of ours there.
As to being quiet or having a rest. I can assure you that I havnt . I found a few pieces last weekend but I didnt put them up on a post as it just becomes the same old same old. This last weekend was a bit different with my best result for a while. 2 pieces were found friday night with head lamp on. 21 were found on saturday & only the 4 small ones on sunday. Thanks

Happy huntingf

JW :)

Yer bring on summer all right. Cant agree more with that comment. I have a few missions planned for a few days & nights out there in the highlands. I dont mind the cold too much, you can dress for that.....its just when the ground is frozen rock hard & the pick just doesnt enjoy it either. LOL :)
