Gidday everyone,

My name is Stew I'm a builder in Palmerston North and I'm dead keen on getting into this gold fossiking treasure hunting buisness.
I've had enough of digging huge house foundations by hand only to fill it back up with steel and concrete ,I'd like to dig a hole for once that might have something at the bottom of it. I'm only wanting to spend about 2k on a detector, am I waisting my time doing this? Will I only get a rubbish machine?, Should I spend more to start with to get something decent?, What is the most commonly used detector ? Basically what should I buy and where can I start looking? Any help on this would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Stew.

if you are wanting a decent all rounder then you wont go wrong with the fisher goldbug...when the 11 inch coil is attached and ask the guys down in dunedin it is a great gold detector also..lol

the goldbug is 775 with the 5 inch goldhunting coil...and the 11 inch coils is an extra 220...so 995 total for a great machine.

Hi there Stu, To be honset.....dont give up your day job. Gold doesnt grow back over night or even the next season. How much $$ do you expect to make each week.....every week? 1/2 an ounce is about 1k, 1 ounce 2k. To find this amount week after week is unlikely If it is gold you want to target & you are serious, then buy the best gold detector money can buy. That is a Minelab Pulse Induction detector. The latest model is the GPX 5000. It will cost you way more than 2k.

There is a lot more to it than just turning a detector on & walking over the ground. It is a huge learning curve, both in learning to operate the detector to its full potential & learning where gold is likely to be. Often it isnt where you think it might be. There are so many variables.
Treat it like a hobby because if you make it your job it will quickly become a chore & fast lose its fun & adventure aspect.

JW :)
