I was up the top end of my street taking some landscapes of the view over the lake and the remarkables when i noticed this quartz specimen poking out of the road surface. You can work out how big it is by looking at the standard road chip above.
i have to wonder if it is rising out of the ground or was in with the seal.
gold has been mined in the 1 mile gully below.
there is also a fault running up through here too.

So have you dug it yet?. Might be the only exposed part of a good reef!

Get the Council to come buy with a digger and have a really good investigation.

dreams are free but that looks like it is probably just a bit of semi rounded quartz ie gravel
And now....On sandy beaches and muddy soil, rings and coins await my coil!

Hi Simon - If in doubt blow it out!

It does however look as though it is weathered but in any case I dont see any harm in going up there when all are asleep with a stick of chemical persuasion - look up the road - look down the road - look in front then behind and if no one is evident blow it to purgatory.

In all seriousness however I dont think it is big enough for anyone to be unduly worried if you took a small tire lever and went and prized it out - it doesnt look as though it would be hard to get out - in any case if at all squeemish about removing it a hoody, jemmy and a midnight errand should see you right.

Good luck and we expect a report on its assay.

With the state of the road there, you could just flick it out with a screwdriver and if anyone complains just say you were removing it so it didn't cut someone's tyre and lead to a disastrous accident.

Quartz specimen.....that got me excited as I relate quartz specimen as to being quartz with gold in it. Is there any gold in it? I am sure if there was it would no longer be sitting in the tarseal. LOL :)

Simon put a service request into council, your road looks shocking, it needs a reseal at the very least, lol

interesting comments everyone.

the quartz was really clean and white. not the stuff i think the gold is in.

chances are the big pebble has fallen off a truck as the road or a house up there was built.

looks like they tried to seal the road but didn't do too good a job.

i'm sure if you put your mind to it you could find gold within 100 metres of that spot.

i just doubt it would be worth your effort.
