Man, I havent researched it but if thats a date it looks like 1910 to me which is friggin' amazing! May have been dropped in the 20's or 30's if it was 5inches deep? Guess depends on soil....I was in hagley a week or so ago and found 2c coins at the same depth as blimmin' 1800's pennies...go figure
There's another to find and I'm gunna find it!

I think the 19 signifies 1919, and the scratched bit on the other side is the degree gained? Better not be Dubya's grandaddy's or there'll be trouble.

Oh yeah. Bloody 2c pieces ringing nicely and in deep. I hate it.

Hi there Coinnut, well done on the GOLD ring find. Not a bad start for a beginner. Keep up the good work and keep the posts a rollin.

thought I'd update you all about the ring. I emailed Yale about 4 weeks ago and got this response:

"I am writing in response to your inquiry of September 23, concerning your
1910 Yale ring with the initials H M H. We have only identified 1 person
who graduated in 1910 with those initials: Homer Maxwell Hall, who received
a B.D. in that year. There was also a Henry Hull, who graduated from the
Sheffield Scientific School (Yale's engineering school) in 1910. No middle
initial was listed for Hull. Does the ring just say Yale, or does it also
include the word Sheffield, or the letters SSS? If it does, then it seems
likely that it would be Hull's ring; if not, Hall's."

Mind you I only mentioned the date 1910 so could be off the mark

Cant find a great deal about Rev. Homer (doh!) but he was born 1883 married Susan newman had a son Newman arnold hall, was a religious man & died 1944.
be great to find a picture of him.
