Excellent contribution and well worth having placed it on the site - I had been considering one day trading my gold for gold or silver bars - At least I know that my gold is genuine. It is a lesson that not all is as it seems to be and sadly in this day and age it seems easier to get away with the despicable behaviour that these people engage in and sad to see that humans can lower themselves to the level of deception so that unsuspecting folks who have worked hard for their money have it taken from them by scum who have no scruples.

I could happily take over Albert Peirrepoints profession if these types were brought to justice!

Consider this, if the bars are bought and sold solely for investment purposes ie. nobody tries to melt them down then in theory all would still be well?
Perhaps we should make it illegal to drill holes into gold bars?
For the purposes of investing we could really all just decide that X are worth $2000 each and it would work the same as gold.
Anyway, if you are going to buy a gold bar do it only if you can personally drill a hole into it before purchase.
Shouldn't it be easy to track down the creators of these bars?
And now....On sandy beaches and muddy soil, rings and coins await my coil!

Yes ingots have been the target of faking for some time, both silver and gold but nobody knows how widely really. I think there are various methods of checking, ultrasound etc but if it were me getting something I'd get it right from the horses mouth - somewhere like the Perth mint with govt backing who produce the bars coins etc themselves.

That article proves even an honest middle man can get caught short sadly.
