After the shite weather of yesterday i decided to head out into the snow and get some photos. Got a few shots at a few different locations then decided to have a detect.

Got the usual nails, a few shotgun pellets (strangely i only got 1 at a time - tried all round and no more pellets - maybe someone was sprinkling them about), a tiny piece of light aluminium, a washer, the usual dodgy hot rocks, then a faint signal. moved a couple of slabs of rock. still there but a little stronger (the GB2 only detects a few inches down as it's designed for small stuff), then bugger me days, a huge bloody nugget was just sitting there on the bedrock.

After a near heart attack i detected all around. got more signals. thought it was it's mates. but no. more rusty bloody nails and bullets.

I'll chuck a pic up later on.

Great going Simon - I have a funny feeling that you well and truly deserve it...now dont you dare go and sell it - that one is worth keeping for ever and ever amen! It is the sort of nugget that you want to hand on to one of your kids - the one least likely to scream yippee and head off to the nearest Gold buyer or put it on Trademe!

lammy:

yeah, way overdue. i would have been happy with something small (i sure have found some small bits of metal).

like they say, all about perseverance. don't stop swinging. i would not of got this if i has not had that one last swing. needless to say i ended up staying a lot longer after that.

gold digger:

i will put up the gps co ordinates on here!

well, prob not.

i can say it was in otago.

i live in queenstown!

sorry, i won't be telling everyone where it was. i don't think rushing out there will prove much. i have tried all around and found nothing. as i have done in the past often also. i also find big stuff seems to have nothing else at all around it. then again so many detectors have been out there so you are often just getting the scraps of what is missed.

as it is in detecting, i could spend all summer there and find stuff all. just the luck of the draw.

LoL, so given what u just said, what harm would there be in saying it was up moke creek, or the Arrow, or the 12 mile, etc. Gone on Simon, be a good Kiwi.

Anyone curious where Simon found the nugget? Im not as Im damn sure he would have made certain that there were no more laying around before he posted on here.
Furthermore a large portion of Central Otago is capable of having gold like this hidden away somewhere waiting to be found.
So the best place to look now is EVERYWHERE else!!!
Good luck out here.
