Hi Guys, Went out in to the snow & sleet after work for a few hours. Rugged up warm, put a plastic bag over the control box & headed out. There was a window in the weather but after a 3/4 hour walk to get to my spot straight in to the eye of the wind it started snowing hard out again. Still swinging the 11" commander mono I snagged 3 bits for just over 1 gram. Biggest .62 grams & the smallest .12

Good luck out there

Well done JW. Bet you didn't meet too many other people on the walk.

Hi there Gary, Thanks mate. No I didnt meet any one else. In fact, I have come across no one else in all the detecting I have done since being down here. I find that quite amazing.

Happy hunting

JW :)

john, there is no one down here!

few hunters, few dope growers, few rambling farmers, few tourist panniers. that's about it. same a s up north but less people.

Even when i'm at a public fossicking area sluiceboxing i hardly see anyone. even at the shotover there are days when no one comes along at all.

i think that is why gold is still out there. several people are detecting a lot but there is no way they will ever cover all the ground in their lifetimes.

and there's the bits they miss.

Hi there, I use a Minelab GP 3000 & use a multitude of different coils. Each coil has its own advantages over others. Depends on how deep the ground is, how big or small the gold is, how deep or shallow the gold is, how noisey the ground is, how bad EMI is, how damp or dry the ground is etc etc. There are many varibales & you need every advantage you can to find the elusive yellow metal.

Cheers

G'day Simon, Yes I know what you mean, but I know there is a band of detectorists in the QT area & I have come across no one....not even you. LOL :) & I am out a lot. Sometimes quite remote areas & sometimes quite public & not a soul have I come across.
I did a mammoth reply to your pm this morning before going to work & pushed a wrong button & it vanished in to cyber space. #@%. I have a call right now to go back to work to pick up a van so will PM you later.

Cheers

Regards

John :)

Hey i have a gold bug pro with an 11 inch dd coil would i need the 5 inch coil to have a real chance of detecting gold? The closest place i would have a chance of gold detecting is the Cormandel which isisnt very hopeful. I am heading down to Christchurch for a wedding end of march would be cool to go detecting with someone for like a week and be taught some of the tips and tricks, hang out and finding some nuggets would be a bonus :)
