Found this online. Not sure of the original source, simply said "Historic map (out of copyright) of New Zealands South Island goldfields (1906)" along with the image.

gavin, there is an even better map that is just for gold from 1865.

zimbo pointed it out to me. it's at the national library online i think. i will see if i can find the link. i know it takes me ages to locate it each time.

even i was surprised to see where gold was found. a few new local spots that amazed me anyway.

If you could find me a link that would be awesome! Think I had a quick look but must have been looking in the wrong place.

gavin, here it the link, hope it works.

if not go to nat lib site, click in the researchers link up top right of main page, then once thru to next page click on the link that says digital maps held at the nat lib. there's loads of interesting maps. the one in question is about number 270 i think

Thanks for that guys - much appreciated! Unfortunately the nlnzcat.natlib.govt.nz links don't always work though (seems you can't link directly to the content I guess in some cases due to the way the site is designed). I did get to the "Map of the gold fields of the province of Otago" - so very much appreciated. I'll have to have a proper dig and see what other gems are hidden away in there! :)
