If I was younger, I would like to give Alaska a go, but maybe I'll stay here as there is still lots of gold that the old miners left behind or failed to find.

Thanks for sharing the link Gavin.

Thank you for posting that. I work for a large company ( 80 odd guys plus sub contractors ) They know I do metal detecting on the beaches and gold fossicking. They know roughly what I've spent on two metal detectors and gold prospecting gear and the returns that I've got. I try and explain the enjoyment I get out of the small returns that I get and the prospect of hitting it half rich. Hey don't want to be greedy ! But they do think I'am a bit mad !

Good to hear from you. I was going to email you to see if you were still around. :) LOL

Yer all my mates think I am mad as well...that is all my mates outside of the ones I have made through my passion for chasing the yellow metal. I try to explain to my non gold mates....the ones who laugh at me.... that it isnt all about the gold but the whole journey. The places it takes you to. The adventures in just getting to some of those places. The people you meet & the friendships you make, gold of a different kind. The gold is just a bonus. The making of gear yourself & putting it to the test out in the field & the buzz you get when you do find some gold.

How did that gadget you were working on turn out? Wasnt it a bilge pump powered sluice? I have tried a few bilge pump ideas but wasnt that happy with there performence. I liked the concept of the quietness of them. Especially in the Coromandel but found the hand suction pumps less hassle & no battery to carry in & then go flat on you.
Have you been having much luck up the Coro?

Good luck out there.

Regards

John :)

Hi John and fellow members,
The bilge pump powered sluice has been re-tuned a couple of months ago and I haven't had a chance to take it down to the beach to try it out. All work and no play ! You get some really strange looks when you try out gold prospecting gear at Auckland beaches ! Haven't been down to Coro sence last Christmas ,and missing it. Been doing some interesting research. Should be down there this Christmas.
