Hi all,

I am looking for something to increase my through put that is easy and light and something that works...

These products are at least made from tough plastic, easy to carry etc... but I don't know the in's and out's... any ideas?

Hi Nuggethead,

You still have to carry a pump and power source to pump the water. Then you need somewhere to use it, because you wouldn't be able to use it in the public fossicking areas. JW has used a highbanker, see if you can get hold of him for his opinion.

Thanks bud, I have PM'd JW. Hopefully he can help some. I know Public Fossicking areas are for hand tools only, but I have seen 1st hand people in the public areas using electrical pumps to pump up the water to the sluice on the bank, quite efficant... then they just shovel the paydirt in... no suction, only water feed... seems like a good compromise to me.

Hi there Nuggethead, Mmmm....cant say I have received a PM.

As Gary has said you still need to cart in a motor & pump & petrol & pressure hose. You could operate it with a bilge pump. A lot more quiet but then you need to cart in a battery that will only give you a limited time before it goes flat. I dont know what DOC would have to say about a motorised pump being used in a recreational area, even if it was just pumping water & not a suction device. I havnt used any motorised gear for a few years now as I just stick to detecting these days. That way I am miles away from any water courses & hence any claimed creeks & so arent poaching anyone elses gold. Legaly you cant go anywhere except the recreational areas, but stealth, keeping a low profile, common sense & keeping your nose clean & dont go on to claimed areas without the claim owners or land owners permission & you should be ok.
You can check out the permit map on this site to find out whats claimed & whats not.
If you are handy with your hands you can easily make yourself a nice little portable highbanker.

Good luck out there

JW :)

Thanks JW,

Funny I can't see the PM I sent you either... and I am certain I typed it, but maybe something happened between typing and sending.

Thanks for the advice, I will just take what I have learnt and go digging.

Cheers

sometimes posts vanish if you navigate away to a different web page before what you wrote uploads. it takes awhile sometimes. i lost a couple a while back this way.

in regards to engines in public areas, i went for a walk up the arrow track today and when i got back there was a 4wd with a ply ramp nearby. sure enough a dredge, looked like a 2 inch backpack. i know people have to learn somewhere and nowhere is provided. their choice i guess. no one ever seems to come along and ping anyone.

Hi Nuggethead
I have been using plastic sluice boxes for about two years now. They are excellence at catching very fine and flakey gold, by fine I mean -100 etc.
Very easy to set up and the big plus is at the end of the day you don't have a lot of concentrates to clean up.
I put a posting on this forum a couple of years back, showing a couple of photo's of my system I'm using.
If you need any more information let me know and I will try and help you out.
cheers
Russell

Thanks Simon and Russell,

I know I have seen people with non-hand powered equipment in the PF areas, I don’t necessarily want to do that, but I do want to find a balance between using a shovel and concentrator and moving more volume, I know a sluice is the way to go, but there are so many to choose from, all the way up to full high bankers with water feed pumps (No suction dredging) to help increase the through put. I know DoC can be pedantic, and fair enough..... but I want to learn too and I don't have a claim to do it on......

Anyway, thanks for your guys feedback.

Cheers
