Had about 3 hours at Hagley this afternoon and dug quite a bit of stuff.........lots of bullet cases again but also quite a few coins, both decimal and pre-decimal but alas, no silvers. The oldest half penny was 1899........however what I consider my best dig of the day, was a small Victorian stick-pin (unfortunately quite damaged) of a Scarab Beetle......unmarked as far as I can tell but still way-cool. Not sure what metal it is but the beetle still has a bit of a brass-type shine to it. Any suggestions on possible ways to clean it up a bit would be much appreciated. I'm thinking a good long soak in olive oil maybe?
