Hi Gman
i would love to join you but work is forceing me otherways. Once you frustrated enough of the Aorere, try the Kaituna River that one is good for the pan aswell as the detector. After that i would go up the Quarz Range, all of those creeks are AU with coarse and fine and tiny ghoast towns. Next best is the Rocky Creek, same access road as the Quarz Range, oh yeah dont forget to ask the farmer for road use permission. If you a knarly 4wd driver or a tough mountain biker try the McGregor Gully. I have found a nearly intact camp site from the 30ies up there. And if you bush bash into the wee hills south of McGregor (ridge line goat track) you will find moraine caps right on top of every knob with lots of tunnels from the early diggers. I never metal detected the camp sites then. If you searching for the Bedsted Gully Town, its not there anymore, has been bulldozed by the forestry companies in the 60ies. All the creeks running towards Onekaka are AU. Up the Gouland Downs is a poor gold field too, but i never found nothing there apart from unfriendly DoC staff. I could go on for ever, but anyway have fun, shes a choice place. Good luck.

Great info there! Wish I had that info when I was scratching around up there back in Xmas. Must remember this post for this years holiday in Motueka. Thanks very much.
