I'm going to have to try this sniping lark out! What sort of thickness of wetsuit do you use? Do you use a weight belt as well or tend to float more about on the top?

If you ever fancy a bit of company on a weekend mission let me know - would love to pick up some tips from someone who clearly knows what they are doing! ;)

Awwwwwwsome!

I can't wait to get down to that neck of the woods. I've heard of "green" gold, you know, the eco-friendly stuff, but seeing that just makes me feel green with envy... lol... not to mention being a greenhorn... looking forward to meeting up with some of you guys at the end of summer... just ordered the "hand pump" and california sluice box.

Edit: JW, I'm still keen to buy some gear of yourself when I get to the Coromandel... that's if you still have some gear avaliable.

I spent saturday in the wakamarina river yet again and for around 5 hours scratching around was rewarded with 7.6 grams of nice shiny chunks of gold. That is my personal best for one day so far

With gold like that, don't be surprised when you find the Waka is swamped with people this summer .......

Great pics of your finds Hatter...very good effort, well done.

NZ Gold I think you might be right .....could be like giant neoprene stepping stones all the way up the Waka, make it easier to get right in there anyway!.

Must try sniping one day, seem to be stuck in the winch-and -detect method at the moment, each area is suited for different methods.
Not much water around up The Howard way, tricky trying to get a box running.

Happy hunting all.
