A very interesting and useful post thanks kiwijw. Hopefully those who have watched the clip, have read a few of the comments also. I take this one for example:-

"Just a quick word about the Garrett Pointer that you are showing on your pics, Nero.

I've just recently purchased the Garrett and the first thing I did was test it out. AFTER I was disappointed with my purchase, I decided to read the instructions! Duh!! Embarassed...

The 'reading' part of the pointer is NOT the tip of the pointer ... it is actually the 'thingy' (tip of scraper) on the side of the pointer shaft. In your pic it shows at the 290mm mark of your ruler. Consequently, if you are measuring your readings from the tip of the pointer, you will automatically be that much out."

Just goes to show that a picture does not necessarily tell a thousand words!
Nonetheless, it's certainly a very useful post.

Interesting thread and a helpful video. Here's another from youtube comparing the two. A few of the comments afterwards, bemoan the ML's weaker sound and vibration, and suggest that its performances in soil are not as impressive as the in air tests. Early days yet, I'd love to see one in the flesh or better still use one for a few hours. Till then the Garrett remains my fave pointer.

And an INGROUND comparison test that I think is a pretty darn good one.....

Youtube's "Pondguru" has a very impressive set of vids across a range of subjects. I've spent a fair amount of time, and have enjoyed trawling through lots of his metal detecting adventures. I think this guy has some very good down-to-earth, practical common sense advise on a range of stuff, and his vid above is well worth a watch.

......and I'm more than happy with my Garrett.
