Nice bits of gold mate, good to see. What x-terra model do you have?
And now....On sandy beaches and muddy soil, rings and coins await my coil!

Yeah the X-Terra 70 is the best light weight machine i know, i just use the standard 9 inch 7.5 kHz coil. The coin or target identification mode is lacking a bit of dept, but the rest is almost as power full as my broken down Minelab SD 2200 d. It sertenly can handle the bush and moisture and the odd trip over. It only weighs 1.3 kg and 4 AA batteries last for 40 hours. Bummer you sold yours, hard to find a good second hand one. What machine do you use know?

G'day Nugget hunter, Good on you mate. Well done. Thank you for sharing. I wonder how much more gold you would find with the 18.75 khz gold coils on your exterra.
Can you give us the highest weight piece of gold & the lowest & possibly the depths you found them at? Maybe if all of us that detect for gold can do this, & what machine & coil size we are using then we will all get a picture of the abilities of the verious detectors for gold being used out there.

Good luck out there

JW :)

Hi Kiwijw, good idee then i'm interested on such information too.
the biggest one is 1.72 gram
the smaller bits are 0.3 to 0.5 grams
the real small ones came out of the wash with the pan
all i did was removing and biffing the bigger rocks and stones away until there was about 2-3 inches of gavel and sand/silt over the partial visable bedrock, then i started swinging the coil. The signals where fairly strong but it took several swings for the smaller ones as the bedrock is extremly hot with magnatite. In places the bedrock is so mineralized that it looks like streaky bacon and it produces a positive signal with a sharp pitch as. The target ID will tell you thou. All the bits were laying flat and just above the water at the time. As said i've used the X-Terra70 with the 9 inch 7.5 kHz coil. Would'nt mind trying the 18.75 kHz coil some day, hopefully at the get together weekend at Lawrence.
Cheers
Peter
