can anyone tell me if gold has been found in the maruia river and adjacent creeks through the gorge above the falls. completly new to this so any advise of what to look for would be great. i have access to some private property up there with a nice creek and the maruia running through it.

I saw a couple of dredges in there one day I when I was driving past a few years back, a fair way upstream from the waterfall. So there should be some gold in there if people are putting in the effort ;)

can you still use a detector on your own property if theres a claim on it or do you need to get permission from the claim holder?
looks like theres a claim that includes the entire property bar a small section of the smaller creek. bugga
