Finds for the 90 minute hunt.

First find-Lead head off of a nail
First coin-2 cent piece

all up, 3 lead heads, 2 screws, 1 washer, 1 nail, 3 rusted pieces of metal.
4 2cent pieces and 1 1cent piece

Thanks, Mark

....and I'll tell you mate, it just gets better and better. Each time you take your MD out on the hunt, you'll learn more and more about it and the great finds will come.
I've had my Garrett Scorpion for about three weeks now. I suppose I've had maybe 10 hunts, and the finds have got better and better as I've got to know the detector. Get out there and hunt. Maybe even do a bit of research on your local area. Find out where people gathered in the past........the great finds will come.

good work marty...thats exactly what i done when i first got my gb.Invercargill has got a lot of good places to hunt if you do a bit of research,i can tell you a few places not to try with two of them being daffidol bay and whalers bay,i swear those places used to be the local tip,so much rubbish,in particular beer cans, stubbie tops and alloy screw lids.I thought not many detectorists down here but since ive had my md everyone that stops and talks to me seems to have had one or knows someone that has one.A lot of the places ive tried seem to be void of any decent finds which leads me to believe many have been before me.

good luck

Kiwi keep trying those places and do a real good north south east west grid search...there may have been alot befor you but nobody gets everything...and from what i have seen with the lot of guys i go hunting with not many do real grid searches and there for stuff gets left behind..

Also although it is a major pain in the butt, keep hunting those trashy places you said not to hunt...If you are digging every signal and taking the trash out with you that you have dug up you will eventually find the good stuff if there is any history to the place..

I hunted a part of the groynes holiday park up here and i decided to hunt around this one set of benches near one of the BBQs that gets used alot and yes it was littered with trash, mostly twist tops and pull tabs off beers, but after getting rid of alot of the trash and working through it
i came away with 2 real nice silver rings with black aunix in them, both of which my wife has claimed and also a real nice silver necklace and
about 40 bucks in 1 and 2 dollar coins...

but until i started cleaning out some of the trash i had missed alot of those signals because they were mixed in.

Way to go Mark. You'll have those signals sorted out in no time. I see you took poohbear's advise on the trash............he's a wise man who knows his stuff, and any advise he gives is like a wee piece of GOLD for your pocket. Keep those pics coming too. Awesome stuff!

Marty,

You will have to get a sinker mould so you don't mind digging up those lead heads. And probably a couple of kilos of grass seed too, the way you are going.

...another possible danger to be aware of......(I dug one last weekend) .......was a hypodermic needle!. Even now the thought of what could have happened, makes me shudder.
Fortunately, it was facing point-down so I didn't jab myself with it, however it was buried in a park location where you certainly wouldn't expect to find such a thing..........it scared the living crap out of me I can tell you...........especially once I realised what it was. Not sure how you could ever get rid of a danger such as this but finding it has certainly made me far more aware of the hazards out there.

Thanks for the encouragement. I am enjoying it a lot. Every time i turn up a coin or something interesting, it makes up for all the trash. Next on the list is a sand scoop and digging tool.

Hunting in the back yard today. There seem to be a lot of mixed signals here and locating the object is taking up more area :). A small junk silver locket about all of note.

I went back to the old park I was earlier in the week and picked up a few more coins, a large broken toy truck and a zippo type lighter plus lots of trash. I have been amazed about the amout of foil until i remembered about smoke packets and people taking the top piece off and trashing it. Some of the coins come out of the ground looking good and as soon as they dry they seem to "decay" like the 1948 sixpence here.

Marty your 1948 6p is not silver so hence the bad look and your 1934 6p is 50% silver so looks much better.
Silver coins finished in 1946.
Good finds.
