Hi all, i joined the forum about 2 weeks ago,i live in the UK (Another armchair gold detectorist).
Originally i had been looking at different detecting forums they mostly seem to be US ones,i always used to google for new zealand forums but there didnt seem to be any, then by chance i saw a post by kiwijw on one of the US forums, which was very informative, going into detail excatly how he found nuggets and with pictures as well,so i started googling him.( hope Kiwijw does not mind)No i am not a stalker Lol thats how i found your forum,(i got so exited because it was a new zealands own forum)
i almost fell out of my armchair LOL,anyway i bought this detector last year and brought it over to new zealand earlier this year, didnt really do much with it,having a bit of trouble twiddling the knobs to set it up correctly, its a Garrett Gold stinger,(i bought it because it had gold stinger in the name)i paid 400 odd quid for it last year so i dont think its a toy? what do you guys think(and be gentle please)i left it with my son there when i came back to the UK,told him to get digging with it,but i doubth it somehow,so i have been wondering what the chances of tagging up with some one if i come over next year, just to go through the motions.
Thanks Mem

Hi Mem,

I'm a fellow pommie now living over here. I'm always happy to have a partner in crime though am myself a little inexperienced. Give me a shout nearer the time if you're keen. Should have a bit more experience by then as I'm hoping to get out a lot this summer on the search myself. My detector's more of a coin machine but seems capable of finding nuggets when tested on them, though seems to find more shell casings than anything else when used out in the wild so far!

Kiwijw's a good chappie - he actually took me out detecting a while back. I picked up loads of great tips from him so was really valuable.

Regarding the title of your post... yeah, I noticed it seemed a bit quiet here lately on the forums. I'm wondering if it's a seasonal thing. Now the days are getting longer here as we head in to summer maybe people prefer to be out and about. More likely to sit in from of the computer on dark winter nights?! Don't know - forum hasn't been active that long so I guess time will tell!

Cheers,
Gav

Yep things have been a bit quiet. I get on here quite often to look to see what has been added but I haven't had the time recently to add anything. I've been doing study part time so most of my spare time has been devoted elsewhere. Had my exam yesterday so the end is almost in sight. Just have to wait for some clinical time, write up some case studies then that should be it. But no more study, at least until the next paper next year.

My wife has the Molesworth Muster bike race this weekend and she has been out clocking up the k's so she will have a bit of a rest.......then I'll be able to go further afield. Check out the Waka for myself and revisit the Howard.

The last time I got to Murchison, the Buller river was the highest I have ever seen it. No chance of a scratch around. Could see debris in the trees where the river had been even higher. But more gold will be left behind so I'll just have to get back there to find it.

Happy hunting
