Very nice indeed - it goes to show what is still there and also proves that there does not need to be a claim on it or near it for there to be gold! Indeed the best places are NOT claimed so it is merely a matter of finding them.

A nice bit of inspiration! And I'm very intrigued by the "not as far south as you might assume", but in my mind I've probably overshot and gone too far north now! :P

Your on the right track Gavin, far too cold to be down Otago this time of the year, got a few spots lined up down that way for summer.

Thats not a drawback mate, its almost certainly why the gold was still there! Not that you need to go remote to get good gold all the time. My larges nugget came from a spot where someone had done a lot of digging and was only 5min from a track, the second largedt came from very poppular spot but was just wedged in a very unlikely looking crevice. 11.6 and 7 grams both were found much more north than south!
Well done on finding the creek tho, Its a good feeling to know you are miles from anyone and are onto good gold!
And now....On sandy beaches and muddy soil, rings and coins await my coil!

Cheers - got my curiosity piqued! :) Don't answer if you don't want to, but... I take it you're still south of Timaru? I'll be quite impressed if you've found somewhere a little more north still on the east coast!?
