Yes indeed no.8,great going on the ring, real nice one.Darn rain is halting the works, but is making the ground nice and conductive at the same time,so more goodies when it stops, good luck on your next hunt.

Cheers guys. Yeah, it cleaned up much better than I expected but I'd have to admit.....the pic has probably done it a load more justice than it really deserves. It's a bit 70's "kitch" for my tastes but a good find none-the-less.
Itching for a bit of a hunt this coming weekend.......if this crap weather ever sorts itself out!

does it have a makers name on it,these are very collectable now, well done.

Yeah..... a pretty cool wee find. It does have a makers name but I'll be buggered if I can make it out. I think I'll try soaking it in olive oil for a couple of days to loosen the excess dirt. If I get a result, I'll post it here.

Hey nzdigger, The olive oil bath on the key did the trick!.........One side of the key says "Watch Maker, Jeweler"....the other side "I. (Isaac) Herman, Christchurch"

So this guy was a local Watchmaker/Jeweler based on the ground floor of a building called "Melbourne House" located at 129 Hereford St, Christchurch which he share with a local Ironmonger (see the sign above the door in the pic). From what I can find on the net, he started his business in 1865 selling watches and other fine jewellery, and traded until he was declared bankrupt in 1886. There's more info on the net about this character but I won't bore you with that.

Let's just say it's just great to be able to link a bit of the history to the find.........makes it even more special.

Managed to get an hours hunt in this afternoon at Hagley, after soccer. Got a couple of pennies, an old white/blue-edged enamel soap dish some other junk and this........ a bizarre old lead Tiki. Thought it was just a hunk of heavy old lead when I first saw it, then noticed a pattern and flat back panel. Gave it a gentle scrub and it came up nicely. It's unmarked but I reckon must be pretty darn old......anyone seen one of these little lead Tiki's before?
