I was just thinking maybe a new section where members can state what the weather is doing at their part of the country would be a good idea. I mean what the weather is actually doing as observed by someone actually there, not what is presumably going to happen in the metservice forecast. Obviously this would not just be a section for chit chat. just pure simple weather updates / warnings.

I will get the ball rolling and report that it is pooing snow in my suburb of Fernhill in Queenstown.
Not looking too good for the week up til Friday.
All motorists have been advised to carry chains round town.
snow is pretty wet at this point and not settling much on the main roads.
plows are clearing key roads.
personally wouldn't head out without chains and a 4wd, at least off the main cleared roads.
looks like snow have set in for the day at present.

Hi Simon,

My personal opinion that weather can be locked up online anyway.

However the reports of any soil works, beach errosion or anything that cannot be locked up online should be posted- ofcaurse if person who spotted change in condtion would like to share

although you can look at the weather on line, maybe we can have the links on here for the weather http://www.metvuw.com/fo...gion=nzsi&noofdays=7 and other regional related water info http://water.orc.govt.nz/WaterInfo/Default.aspx, as DB pointed out it is up to others to report on changes in conditions etc, so it might be something the shout box could be used for although you only see that when you log in.

Yes I agree the Shout box would be ideal for special or unusual posts about local conditions.
It is quick n easy and to the point.

yeah, i didn't think of the shout box. don't usually use it you see.

i was just referring to any unusual weather. ie. snow. and the fact that a lot of the gold fossicking areas are in remote places.

they often get our weather wrong here as we are in the middle but close to the divide, while still influenced by the central otago continental type weather.

we were advised to watch out for huge winds yesterday. got no wind at all but instead it pissed down and then snowed.
