Hi Everyone,

I am a new member and thought I would introduce myself.

I've recently started gold mining with the goal of getting enough gold to make some wedding rings for my wedding in November 2012. At the moment I have enough gold but that includes a 6.2 gram nugget which obviously I don't want to melt that down, so I've still got a bit of work to do yet.

I have gold in my veins with my parents farm being full of gold tunnels dug by my great uncle. Our farm also backs onto the Longwoods and Roundhill which has a rich gold mining history.

Currently I've spent most of my time mining the public fossicking areas of Central Otago with my Dad and a Keene A52 sluice, so far results have been pretty good for a couple of beginners. Am considering a getting a metal detector for when the weather is too cold to be in the water. Any suggestions for a decent detector would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Ryan

heading to Tuatapere tomorrow for four days and will be in the area looking at a couple of places down there that I have been to before. know the roundhilll area well cut the forestry boundary from Bob McCrackens to roundhill and down to the gold mining area in the south. opened the track from the mining area up to turnbulls dam. that brings back a time, did that in 1977 and 78. Not much of the longwoods I have not seen. I think you could get the gold for your rings there with a little searching!
Its a good area and a lot of history there mining and logging. Spent a lot of time up the waimermer river "not sure of spelling" working on mapping all the old logging trams. shot a few deer in their to.
I no the weather is shit there today hope it clears or I will be doing nothing as the rest of the family party " Mother Inlaws 75".
but I suppose you need the weather like this to keep all those macrocarpa trees looking like they do on that south coast.

cheers Treeman

also welcome to the forum its one of those things the more you put in the more you get out. well that's what I have found.

Yea I haven't been to the Puki Pub for a while, they've changed hands a few times so the feed may have gone down hill a bit.

As for Treeman well the first couple of days were pretty average for ya, but at least the last couple have been alright. Speaking of Turnbull's dam... last time I was up there was about a week after some really heaving rain a couple of years back. The dam had burst and had carved a bit of gorge through the bush. It was really quite impressive but unfortunately the flow brought down an old viaduct and water pipe. Wish I'd had my pan with me at the time.

Hi tecofsky...and wellcome to the forum.....if it is strictly gold you will be looking for then you wont go wrong with the Fisher Goldbug 2.....if on the other hand you are wanting a great allrounder for gold and coins.relics then you may want to think of the new goldbug....ask hatter or lammerlaw..they both have the new goldbug and have plenty of real Gold with it....i know hatter found 8 plus grams one day i think it was..
and i think that was in his first week or so of owning it..lol...i know he has gotten plenty more since then..hahaha

Cheers Chris
