I am selling some gold to pat for some decent heating in my house in the form of a wood burner.

I have 2 parcels for sale on trade me at present.

1. 44 grams of central otago alluvial gold - fines and flake.

Trade Me Listing #: 485602830

http://www.trademe.co.nz...isting.aspx?id=485602830

2. 9.7 grams of central otago gold - consists of 41 little nuggets/ large flakes.

Trade Me Listing #: 485605193

http://www.trademe.co.nz...isting.aspx?id=485605193

Both parcels are on trade me at present on 3 day auctions. both currently have buy nows a little over the start price (once bidding starts there is no buy now).

Perhaps someone knows of someone buying.

If these don't sell on Trade Me i am going to sell to a gold merchant.

Now you do have me wondering as I had a guy phoned me the other day wanting to buy gold - I simply am not selling any as it is fun watching the prices and working out how many thousands you have 'made' or 'lost' overnight. If you dont need to sell it Simon then for goodness sake hang onto it!

I might point your listings out to my son who is also on this forum as I have advised him to buy gold, gold and more gold.

If you really want to sell Simon then I dont think you will have any trouble selling it and the very best of luck doing so - it seems to sell well on Trademe.

lammerlaw,

i know you tell us all to hang onto it but i am putting it to good use in trying to keep warm. hopefully it will add to my house value too.

the gold price is lower than is was. but fuel prices are also down. both seem to track along together.

i'm pretty confident the price is going to go up further but unfortunately i need a wood fire.

while i worked bloody hard to find it there is always next summer. learnt a lot this one so can only improve on my strategies for finding it.

work efficiencies are key for me. it's easy to waste time doing it wrong. well, not wrong but things can always be improved.

my goal is to get up earlier each day next summer! some good neoprene may be needed. water is never warm here.

In the summer of 76 or 77 we got six ounces out of the Arrow - that was in the middle of January and over three afternoons - the water was totally frozen I thought and I well remember just how cold I was! I kept an ounce of it and might show it on my thread sometime...if I already havent.

Hi Simon pm message me if you don't have any luck on trade me as I have a friend who is investing in Au and might also be interested in acquiring that elemental wonder. I am sure that you will have interest here on the forum too as Lammerlaw pointed out. The gold merchant will give you about one third the spot price and will speel something about the 'price having dropped back a bit over night' and something about the 'assaying fee' and will buy your 24 carat hard earned yellow at 22 carat price, roughly $22 per gram, same with any jewellers etc. I have learnt the hard way and now hold on to it for as long as possible and sell it privately, getting about $60+, there is a gutting empty feeling when you let go of it for a bad price, but circumstance sometimes has you against the wall. It is good that you are doing something useful with your Au, and I see your location is in central so the prospects are close to home, yes the price is expected to reach $2500 US per oz by 2015, some predictions are $5000 an ounce!!!!

LepreSean:

yeah, you can lose a bit if you sell via a merchant. last year the gram price was at $60, i got $40 gram i think.

for every hard worker there is someone in the system somewhere taking advantage and making easy money in some office somewhere down the line.

i did already sell a few grams to a mate at $65 gram, so way better. he in turns makes it into jewellery to sell.

and trade me always take a good chunk too if you sell there.

http://www.goldprice.org/ if its clean and assays around 95% you should get 90% of this price. Because of the dreaded melt lose.

The gold buyer I use is paying 58nz a gram. but I must admit there are some fees
70 for assay and 7.50 per ounce handling fee. so it all comes off and it brings the final price down.

but at the end of the day you get what its worth to someone and that may be more than that or as you say gingerbreadman $40 could be close and stress free if you do not want the hassle..

if you want you can PM me simon and i will tell you what i do.

I have some on sella at the moment.

cheers Treeman

As a guide to selling i use the following,

US $ per oz say $ 1,650

devide by our dollar with the US say .76 cents = 2,171 nz

X by the purity of the gold say 95%

= 2,062 NZ per oz devide by 31.1 will give you the gram weight = $66.30 per gram NZ

For the big stuff name ya price,

hope this helps and if i am wrong someone please correct me!!

cheers and happy digging
Steve

Sound advice from stev and treeman 1 thing that has been left out is the more you have the better deal you get so that means once the man has pulled out the calculator dont be shy to haggle a little.

all great advice guys,

gingerbreadman, yeah you need to sell a bit to a merchant to spread the assay costs etc over many grams. if only a small amount prob not worth it as the costs will sting.

This does not help Simon but does anybody have a nugget of around one ounce (32 g) for sale? I realise that nuggets of exactly this weight are rare so wouldnt mind something a bit but not too much above but not below this weight. I have given up hope of finding one but always promised myself I would have one.

Saw your gold for sale on trademe Simon - good luck selling it - I have noted that gold sells well on Trademe and without a doubt in the world it is the best place to sell it - I am poor, destitute and insolvent but noted offers made early up and I for one would be happy to pay considerable more but as I said Trademe is the place to sell.

If a large quantity like several pounds or Kgs is on offer then if you wish to sell it the best bet could well be the Bullion dealers but the ones I once knew seem to be defunct now - I remember that for bulk quantities one bullion dealer was prepared to pay 95% of the spot price and that was an excellent price to get.
