Hi guys, Went for a detect after work last night. 9 bits for just under 7 grams.

I find night time is the best time to detect. No solar influence. That is with a minelab PI, dont know about any VLF's. That may sound crazy but it is a fact. I have proved this to myself time & time again. Detector runs dead quiet & smooth as. Worst time is when the sun is at its highest. Makes the detector noiseyer which requires a strong focus to pick the signals from the solar influence.

Flip side of the bigger speci bit I got in the weekend

Good luck out there & happy hunting

Well done JW, but it does pose the question:

1) Are you spending time in Otago, or
2) Are you doing a big commute, or
3) Are you working a secret spot on the Coromandel.

Awaiting further developments.l

At night the "D layer" of the ionosphere goes away (which is what makes MW band radio signals bounce around the globe at night time but not during the day).

Interesting you notice a difference with the detector. Try it during a local solar eclipse. Also, there is an ionospheric prediction service that tells you the sunspot numbers and likely radio interference, etc. You might be able to correlate something that allows you to predict in advance the best days for using a detector. LMK if you make any progress. :)

I have noticed that signals become sharper at dusk and early evening.
Thought I was just having a senior moment - but maybe not.

Hi there Gary, I am down in Queenstown building a house for a friend. Have been out detecting most weekends & ocassionaly after work. Got 4 little bits tonight for 1.4 grams. Be nice if the Coro had gold like down here. Good to see you are getting out & up those creeks & getting a bit of colour.

This was my total a couple of weeks ago but I have added another half ounce since then.
