Does anyone know if old mining records are online?

specifically i would like to research where and when claims were held, along with any possible info related to that claim and it's workings, eg. amount of manpower, gold officially recovered etc.

ha ha i got stuck at the same spot. i found the book, Economic Geology of New Zealand by G.J. Williams, has the best summary of ore volume/yield results, but only about NZ hard rock mines not alluvial claims.

In theory it should have drill hole,s and what they got from them not just hard rock stuff as even dredge operators have to file anual and"accurate !! " reports to CM.
But for the purpose of historic info well thats a good question .....like gogold mentioned papers past is a start but you would think there is a better place to look up than news clip,s perhaps a call to the local museum mite shed some light ?
even the 80,s when seemly the last gold rush was on and who was were would be good to find out.

the mining office in Dunedin burned to the ground a quite some time ago, when there was a mines department, and with it went all the records.
