Hi Everyone
Just joined the forum a couple of weeks back and thought I better say hi
Very new to all that's being talked about and finding it an enjoyable challenge to take everything in
Thanks to everyone that's posting replies to members queries, without you we wouldn't have this forum
Had my best find last week, when I found a retired gentleman who’s house I had bricked some 38 years ago who had been a keen fossicker for many years.
Went and had a chat to him and he said he hadn't been out for a few years, but would be keen in showing me what he knew
A couple of days ago we headed up to one of the local rivers and did some panning, sluicing & sniping.
Found a bit of colour, but that wasn't the highlight of the day, it was all the advice and practical tuition I was given.
Priceless actually, as it would have taken me years of trial and era to learn what I learnt from him in those few hours .
Sitting on the riverbank at lunch time waiting on the thermette to boil and glancing across the river in case a wee spiker came down for a drink wasn't a hardship either.
Anyway, keep all the post coming, they are all very informative and some are rather amusing.
If any of you are ever passing through Balclutha, there will always be a cup of coffee just a jug boil away for you. (That’s if I’m not out in the field experiencing our countryside from another perspective)
Cheers
Peter

Hi Peter. The experience is often almost as rewarding as the find themselves. We are lucky to live in this country.

I agree with mineforgold. For me drunkbrother, I think, said on his blog, that when he was a young feller he read stories about treasure hunting and that for him gold fossicking or treasure hunting for other stuff as the case may be is like we are kids again and the hunt for that treasure is actually the fun part. And the time you spent with the older gold fossicker was a treasure in itself, and not just for the information you gained from him, but also for the enjoyment you had in sharing that time with him. Finding gold or other treasure is an excellent bonus! But if we don't find anything and are dissappointed in not finding anything then we are missing the fun we should be having in the fossicking. I am just pleased to be out and about.

Hi Cluthapete - No relation to Blackpete? Welcome to the forum - some really decent people here. I think that the most important aspect of it all is getting out into the hills...just being there - good company is a bonus. Part of the excitement of just being there is the expectation of what you might find.
Years ago I saw an amazing wee nugget of gold found at the mouth of the Clutha on the north side and on the beach...so you just dont know what you might find!

Good luck out there and hope you find heaps.

Thanks for the welcome everyone
I was a member of other forums associated with Filming and Video Production and there isn't a comparison between them and Paydirt
This forum seems to be a group of people genuinely wanting to help others
A very rare occurrence in this day and age
I look forward to eventually meeting many of you and thanking you in person for all the useful information and wisdom you have been sharing with us new fellas

Hi Chris - I saw the comment and I am still waiting to see you - wait until the weathers fine - my place looks like Mt Erebus right now so I am told and its colder than Charity in a gambling den...if you timed it so you came up with David and me on the first trip of the ear then you might have a really good chance of finding something in 'a spot I know'
