Hi all,

I am interested in all things gold and would love some information on how to get started looking for gold.
I run a website selling and buying gold and silver bullion - www.goldsilver.co.nz
But I would like to find some myself. So if any of the regulars would be so kind as to point me in the right direction, I would very much appreciate it.

I live in Auckland. Sorry about that ;-)

Kind Regards,
Goldbug

Hmmmm

Read and learn, get to know and be trusted by other keen gold fossickers, go out with them get to learn how to read the country, practice with your detector if that is what you intend to use and then get out there - in about eighty hours work I suppose it would be over maybe twenty days my son has had six ounces so it is out there.

I see you are a dealer - in such cases I have to assume that your interest in finding gold also has financial implications and thus if you were down here then time out with me would need to involve...how should we put it?...reciprocal considerations?

Hi Lammerlaw,

Thanks for your reply.

Wow, your son is doing very well. Good on him.

I am a dealer (very small time). Have been interested in gold and silver since 1999. I am 46 years of age, so no longer a young man.

If ever i am down in Otago (which is beautiful by the way) I would love to go out with you and see what it is that you do. And of course I would be happy to give you something for your time.

In your opinion is it better to go down the panning or metal detecting route?

I used a glass bottom box and cleaned out crevices then when I was 20 set up my own suction dredge and used it for years but the Metal detecting route is the new Gold rush I think. I have finally succumbed to getting out, walkiing along after floods going beep beep and picking it up! If I find gold going under the gravel then I will move heaven and Earth to get it so still do a good deal of manual work. Currently I have found a spot where it appears that the gold is showing no signs of running out as it goes under the bank where it is sitting on the bedrock.

For me detecting now and crevicing.

Hi Kiwikeith,

Thats a very kind offer and one I will take up if I'm ever down that way. Sounds like you are as fit as a fiddle :-)

60's not that old anyway. You probably still feel 30.

So there is gold in them there hills. And is it a bit of a hobby of yours to go looking for the stuff?

Kind Regards,
Mark
