does anyone have any tricks for cleaning your wetsuit after a long season?

i never pee in my wetsuit so that's a start. i'm told it's not too good for the suit's stitching.

anyhow, my wetsuit stinks enough as it is.

I'm guessing some sort of delicate cycle in the washing machine?

it's going to take more than a soak that's for sure.

You could try Baking powder sprinkled allover the inside
after washing when dry. Need to wrap it up for a day maybe.

Hi Simon
Thats funy you mention the stinky wetsuit it was only a few days ago wifey was complaining about a odd mouse,y smell and i dont pee in my,n eather ! ...i was pleased the word rotten wasnt mentiond after all i figerd seen as how id been swimming the last few week,s in the river i didnt need a shower...seemly not!
basically the best way to keep your suit from getting all stinky is to simply spray it with the hose each day even a quick dunk in the river ounce removed will do wonders...if you dont then yes a wash in the machine will do the trick but that only last,s so long and will damage your suit...like they say prevention is better than a cure so just give it a quick rub in the river each day iv found doe,s the trick....

Hi, wetsuits and washing machines do not mix, Scrub with a mild scented dish detergent using warm water ideally 45deg or less in a tub, do not use bleach, clean inside and out then rinse in clean water and hang on the line out of direct sunlight, I cover mine with a towel

I've out grown mine now, but I'm with Gingerbreadman.

I use to rinse mine out in the river after taking it off.

At the end of a season, I rinsed mine in a big bucket of WARM water & dish liquid for 30 mins or so, then thoroughly hosed down.

I agree ... don't dry it in direct sunlight.

Try talking to the local dive club ... they'll have some ideas.

Fabreeze! Might help?! Never tried it myself though. Or maybe take it for a dip in the sea - I've never had to wash my surf wetties so maybe salt water neutralises any nasty odours?

The seams had all left indentations that lasted for a few hours.

thanks guys, i think i will simply soak the thing in a tub of warm water with a little detergent (something gentle).

unfortunately i can't wash the suit off each trip in the river as i wear it til i get home. saves a chilly changeover out in the bush and some easy lunch for the sandflies.

Yeah. I been pissing in all mine for years.

I kinda like it when you roll around and the warmth circulates
around the spine.
Its just part of the job. Everyone does it. Piss easy.
Mucking around loosing work or dredging time just couse ya need to go.

Just have a half plastic drum of water handy.
Add some disinfectant and some dish washing liquid.
Plunge suit roughly and throughly, then rinse properly.

Magic. Hold it to your Nose ---- Smells like a Rose.
all ready for your next spine tingling thrill.
