Hi Man

IF you want a brand New- you need to get it from Rob the Dealer - http://www.puiakisupply.co.nz/
THe set up most of us use is:
Gold Bug (5 inc coil) + 11 DD coil, total 950$ + you need to buy 2 rechargable batteries (or more if planning on long trips) i got 2 Energizer ones that are really good and 25$ each at Dicksmith

The Machine is really good all way round and it is rare that people sell it even after upgrade- there was only 1 on trademe within last 6 month.
I got Minelab Excalibur for water detecting, but keeping fisher for Dry land. :-) as it has superb responce time, way better than Etrack for example and cn easier pick up smaller targets-
fior example Excalibur or many other detectors do not see THin chains, but gold bug does :-P

THe smalles piece of juwelery i found was a broken 9CT gold ring flat piece 0.1 Gram :-) and it was givins a really goos signal in soil 1-2 inch down :-)

ROB, you owe me fo a good feedback

Hi Max,

Re this bit -

"as it has superb responce time, way better than Etrack for example"

How do you know this?

MK
Happy E Trac user.

I mean response over targets, like the test with 2-3 targets next to each other - if GB goes over them fasst i would get 3 beeps
The etrack might not catch and respond with all 3 targets.

I posted this after watching al those trillion videos on you tube :-)

Lets do a test next time we go hunting togather? :_) and post a video as well?

Hmmm. Not sure about that.
I do get multiple responses quite often.
I will have to take note of the speed at the time.
No doubt it depends a lot on the metal type, depth, spacing and volume.

Also with the E Trac I can, and do dis out most of the crap and concentrate
on the better signals. As a result I dig very few pulltabs but have still found Gold etc.

That 1983 pull tab you left in the ground could have had an 1893 half sovereign hiding 2 inches under it. :)

I'm still a noob detectorist, but.....
Without wading in too much in an E-trac response debate, I feel that I should defend the E-trac a bit as I have one as well.
It is a very complicated machine, with many settings to play with - with recover fast on and in high trash (I think) the response time is fine. It is a trade off though as recover fast on means that the detector is not quite as accurate with its readings. Slow and Low is definately the mantra for E-trac users.
On the other hand, I've been out with NZPB40 a few times (Who is a Goldbug user) - and have been left in awe at the speed and accuracy of his efforts. This may be down to experience, but it is equally likely that the GB is a fantastic detector.......probably both.

Ha Ha. Yes well you could be quite right Oroplata. Hope not though as I would love to find a Sov.

One thing I have noticed with the ET is that even when in quite high discrimination it will often still give me a decent beep when there is something interesting lurking below. The trick is to recognize that beep cos it usually only does it once.

Interesting. If you guys think the Gold Bug is fast you should try and F75. Slow and low is NOT the way to go. If I am having trouble with a target I go faster. I literally can't swing it too fast. Typically good targets get stronger and crap targets drop off with faster swings. I use how the target changes as a swing faster as a prime clue in figuring out what it is.

The note- is that i am doing beach sweeping and not deep targets- hence i dig up everything and do not waste time identifying item, as i spend same ammount of time digging it up.

Andrew and i did a time test- his infium and my GB on wet send i i picked up exactly twice more targets than he did in a same time.

ok ok i have to throw my 2 cents worth in...hahaha yes i have the goldbug (silverbug) hahaha...and have never used an Etrac..and the only test i did against one was with a gold nugget...a very small one but gold just the same..lol...the e trac picked it up to a depth of about 3 to 4 inches...the goldbug to a depth
of 6 to 7 inches so all i can report is that when it comes to small nuggets the goldbug rules over E trac....hahaha... other than that i know the goldbug is very good with silver...hahahaha

Not a silly idea actually.

Pick a marked out area, and let everyone have at it. You HAVE to dig every signal you find. Then do a tally-up at the end.

Hmmm so the winner could be the guy / gal that finds the most nails or pull tabs :-))
- or is discrimination allowed?

Wellt he problem with a race like that is that it would really be a pinpointing/digging race.

It would be fun for everyone to read the same targets and give their best guess on what it was before digging.

Well as I have said before, I think I could win a 1 and 2 cent finding contest.

I have heard of detecting contests in Europe or North America, but have no idea how they were run.

Just to add my 2 cents....in general single freq machines give faster recovery and better target seperation, than a multi freq machine such as an Etrac.
The Etrac is a great machine but it can't compete in these respects against a single freq unless it is run wide open.
The micro seconds needed to ID then discard an object is the point at which a close secondary target is lost.I run my single freq wide open and let my ears do the discriminating and also ran my Explorer the same way until i got rid of it.
