Good on you for having a go Matto.
Did you know that if DOC see you they will probably have things to say.
Lots of Doc land through there.

Gidday Matto,

Had a couple of visits. The only stuff I can find is very fine, I guess it passed over the tables before they got the cyanide process up and running.

Separating it is like sorting salt and pepper.

There has to be worthwhile stuff somewhere there. It would be interesting to hear how successful the area has been for dredging.

A couple of hundred metres upstream from the old hall, or where it was, as it is now burnt down. The opposite side of the river from the highway.

There are a couple of large lumps of rock there.

You will need to scrape and suck the cracks and depressions and pan it carefully, because it is really fine.

hi matto
last time i visited the gorge was about 40 years ago
we went up the waitawheta stream there used to be a stamper there some where. i remeber picking up some rocks that had gold speaks in them if its the right place there is a walk way carved in the rock face with a water pipe running round it we swam up the gorge there were old boilers in the deep pools at the end of the walk way it goes into a drive and under ground there was all the working machinery
at the time i had a plan of all the tunnels and shafts i recall there been heaps of rats

i have a book that may interest you "thames gold fields miners guide"
