Yeah Gidday
my name is Peter (46) europ immigrant since 1989, detector fanatic, got a 2 inch suction dredge but found its just hard work for little reward, useing a X-Terra 70 as the SD2200D gave up the ghoast. Best weekend 3.5 oz in 12 pieces, biggest nugget 26 gram, all NZ gold. Out and about every weekend searching out the more isolated spots, weather permitting. Capable to tolerate non smokers. Just moved to Christchurch for a shaky start.
Cheers, beers and best Regards
Peter

Gidday Peter, sounds like you had some good luck out there and obviously have put in some hours! If you ever need a partner to lug some gear and/or share bullsh1t stories with then give us a yell. My wife and I usually just use the sluicebox and a fisher f2 for coins/relics but will be upgrading to a goldbug in April. She's out of action at the moment due to a back operation so I've been stuck home being the nurse. To say i have cabin fever would be putting it mild!
Bad luck moving to Christchurch Haha the only region with earthquakes and no gold!

Hi Chrischch, yep Greymouth was a lot better for the hobby, but sometimes one has to give in to the prioritys like work. I am defenetly keen to exchange some digger storeys etc. Usually a rainy weekend is best for that. You wellcome around my place for a cuppa or whatever the currant mobility let you do. Im also very keen to learn how to operate this web site.

Hi, welcome to the forums Peter :)

Recently got myself a Goldbug(Pro) too Chris, and keen as hell to have a bash at finding some gold with it!

I plan to just get in the car and drive to the coast or down south myself,
following my nose/googlemaps/navman sometime in the next few months,
but if anyone wants to put together a bit more of a planned trip with me, yell out ;)
Check out my BLOG : Its where i post my finds :D

Hi Ash, i'm keen on a weekend trip. I know the coast well but still out of 10 trips is only 1 with some sort of success. I have never been down south so far. Do you know of any nuggety places to go down south?

No, not at all.

The extent of my planning so far is,
looking for the old gold workings, making sure its not under claim,
and that's about it so far ;)

Hi Keith - you are a bit late for the Waimate Racecourse as I did it over in 1980 or 81! I also did Kelceys Bush over back then and a few other places.

How about these rumours which I do believe have credence - three separate lots of coins totalling on each account a hundred pounds - one at Hakataramea on Tabletop Station and one out at Grays Corner. These coins were all in the form of sovereigns...as for up around Wallaby country I have not heard anything unless you are talking about Gold at Kaiwarua.

Yes your correct,Kaiwarua has now been turned into a yuppies paradise (out of my league im afraid) you can go up there and have a pan for gold but it will cost you $300 bucks a night , too much for a poor old bugger like me
It would be great to find a sovereign or two in some old spot where the old folks used to go eh
