Been a bit quiet on the forums this summer as been recovering from some hand surgery, but aiming to make up for it before winter sets in now it's on the mend and getting stronger :)

Biggest nugget I've found so far - didn't even have to dig for it! Was just sitting there in the stream ready to be picked up - just the way I like them.

Found it with the detector, but as you might be able to see from the poor photo taken through an underwater viewfinder - it was just sitting there on it's side. Such a good signal that my immediate thought was "ah, some junk". Then I looked down and thought "maybe that isn't a yellow autumn leaf after all!".

That is pretty cool - you will be over the moon - Many people go through a lifetime of pottering around and dont get any that large so you have done well...nice shape to...I like it.

Awsome find! May I ask if it was nelson, westcoast, otago or southland regions? I notice you are in Chch too so just curious as to the best travel distance/gold find ratio.

Now somehow I guessed it might have been West Coast - nothing like that over here - its all worked out - all gone - West Coast - thats the place - thats where the nuggets are...now I shall sit at the top of Parthurs Arse and set up a toll gate at Otira and charge all parsers by as everyone heads over there - the last great Gold Rush.

On a serious note though I do reiterate what I said before that it is a nice looking bit of gold and does show whats out there and the interesting point is the fact that the detectorists are actually proving that for a small outlay you can do really well with a detector - on the home ground looking for lost goodies and on holiday and weekends looking for gold and as far as the gold goes there is no reason whatsoever that everyone can find themselves some nice gold nuggets with a little patience and perseverance.

It doesnt matter how much gold a person gets it is always nice to see others getting their share and thus proving that there is some for everyone who wants to go looking.

It all political Gavin - If I steer everyone over to the West Coast then there are more for me down here! I said the above sort of tongue in cheek.

I also hope you will keep it and not sell it - they aint a dime a dozen after all - I still have my very first nugget - my uncle gave it to me on my first trip out with hima nd his partners and every time I look at it the day he gave it to me down by the river flows back as clear as crystal - of the five of us there that day they are all gone except my father and myself. If you keep yours then you will find that it is as good as a dairy.

Save those pennies Mr Drunk brother and you will be here in no time - the deep south - half a step from Purgatoy and just north of the South Pole! If you choose to come down here you have to watch the natives...send me an email if you come down here.

No fear - it's all getting hoarded unless I fall on hard times ;) A lot of people are investing in gold at the moment, I just prefer to find mine - a lot more fun!

Yeah, it was bad enough before the quakes - no way I'd be getting in there now. I'm still hoping not to encounter any "nuggets" while out surfing! :P
