http://www.trademe.co.nz...er/auction-454438196.htm

just spotted this on trade me.

gold bug 2 located in alexandra, central otago, starting bid $750 i think.

these gold bug 2's are great for around these parts. designed for finding the small stuff. nearly everyone i know that is serious about gold and into the detecting side has one of these. nice and lightweight too.

a good deal. i think i paid about $875 for mine about 6 years back secondhand, was like new thou.

I demurred between the Goldbug and Goldbug two and am pleased I got a standard Goldbug - I think that about five days of pottering and it was paid off...great buy.

i take it you are talking about an original gold bug. also a great machine. i think there are a few little things different between the two.

i know there was a lot of confusion with the release of the new gold bugs which are nothing really like the originals as they have different frequencies. might be ok for coins etc. i think they are all digital as a lot seem to be now.

Simon - as matt said my one is one of the new ones - I am even thinking of doing what an American woman did when Model T Ford cars came out - she thought they were so wonderful that she purchased three of them...well I am thinking of getting another couple of Goldbugs...Spares!

I know that some time ago fopur blokes turned up at my gate and came to the house - they had an old Goldbug - I took them down to the hut paddock and asked for a demo and they immediately got two very small nuggets - I was impressed with even those old ones - it was good.

As I said in another thread they are great value for money and although the MInelab Xtreme I have is a great machine it cost $7500 and at $800 the Goldbug is far better value for money...thats a personal opinion only but based on the fact that I have both and therefore some experience with both.

i know people that have minelabs and goldbugs. some have one of each. the minelab is definitely top of the line but like you said also comes with a hefty price. unless there is a lot of black sand in a waterway/area i think the gold bug (whichever one it is, new or old) is the way to go, at least around central in schist country. although i know of a few guys with the older minelabs. these are still great machines too, just a lot cheaper than the latest version.

Good idea - you organise and set the date - the entry fee is $1000 payable to me as there are very real possibilities of good finds after all you gotta run things as a business - a 9oz nugget has been taken off my place and I also believe a 24 ouncer.- I take the entry fee - for loss of potential revenue in gold found and use of hut/house and facilities and you get to set up a sales table.
Now why didnt I think of that Robert?

I think it is a great idea and quite reasonable, but the fee might limit the enterants to the wealthy Dunedin detectorists; however this could probably be overcome if there were dancing girls.

Put it this way Robert - I am very generous toward personal friends but strangers are another matter - in other words what I lose on the swings I win on the roundabouts and I am not quite daft enough to give freebies away to yobbos who cruise sites such as this gleaning what they can to capitalise out of others without contributing...In some respects it is exactly the same as me hiding bundles of 100 dollar notes all over the show then letting others look for them. I can be extremely benevolent and generous to those who show me a kind turn and befriend me but not totally mad with opportunists who would capitalise out of me. as I said - Its business. Within my hypocrisy there is one rule for friends and another for strangers!

I suppose the fee might seem high but then again the returns can be high and I am not actually a benevolent institution to total strangers. To be honest, like everyone, I really dont want total strangers hanging around my place - once I get to know people it is different as I am sure you will understand.

Do you mean dancing girls or ladies of the night enlisted form the local massage parlour - if the latter then I would apply for the job as quality control officer.

I doubt there would be much quality to be found amongst girls or ladies involved in that particular
line of work.

I think Robert was having a joke - I have been known to invite those I have got to know for a trip and repeat trips to my place and there has never been any mention of money and never will be.

Roberts suggestion however meant that people who are strangers would be lining up and then yes I would expect payment because I would not know just how benevolent they might be to me in turn - I would never have people on my place who are opportunists for example and who in turn would not show me or others a kindness.

As for the $1000 - unless you knew the place personally I dont think that $1000 would be a good bet for a weekend. I have had a lot more than that in gold value for a weekend BUT I know the place and I know what has and has not been worked. For your $1000 you might not find a thing but on the other hand...

Big toys - big dollars. What you suggest is actually something I had considered so not silly but the bigger the toys and more the outlay and overheads required to run them and there the doubts lie. If you pay a mere $800 for one of Roberts Goldbugs then there is no risk as it has many applications and once you have found a few bits of gold there is no looking back.
