funny how the article talks of them ruining the experience of people in the public fossicking area when one of those caught wasn't even in the public area.

of note is the mention of the 1930's depression era miners who mined in the area. shame that during the latest depression, the current one, that we have got the country into such a state that people are made to stay home and keep away from such areas unless a. they are wealthy enough to get a permit, b. they reduce themselves to "foraging" with their handheld tools. wouldn't it be a great way to get people active and off the dole, to get them outdoors and physically fit and actually working.

i agree their are some muppets out there that jump about spot to spot ripping up banks etc for little reason but at the end of the day you have to go where the gold is, and dig where the gold is. remembering also that gold doesn't grow back, thus each year there is less to find and more work required to find it. and with the gold price soaring more people looking for it also.

I think it is fair enough Department of Constipation confiscating this equipment given the circumstances but in this country the people have NO rights and lets fact it - No worthwhile places where they can go gold fossicking - the people of this country should be wrestling back their rights so that they can fossick throughout the DOC estate or public lands with a pan and hand gear providing they purchase a miners right such as existed in the 1860s right up into the 1970s.

All that was eroded when NZ borrowed to become the 'Welfare State' became bankrupt and then passed legislation to keep 'The Receivers' - world banking interests and their businessman interests including international mining companies happy...Our politicians are puppets of the offshore money masters.

It should also be easier for good old Kiwis to take a small claim with minimal paperwork at minimal cost where they can use their dredges instead of having to resort to nefarious means to do some harmless fossicking.

If it comes to claims that we, the fossickers are harming our environment then how about Macraes mining? - In this country there is a rule for one and a rule for the majority and big business wins - such the claim of being a democracy - hypocrisy rules supreme

agree with u 100% Mr lammerlaw. The only way forward for hobby miners is to come together form a group of maybe 5 or 6 people and take out a claim on a suitable area.

Actually not a bad idea.
Technically general gold digger can not be on claim every day ..
So why not to get X ammount fair and honest people to get togather and than split the findings equelly ?
once every person gets the money back for the claim- the rest is just profit for everyone.

I think that all the genuine hobby miners and fossickers should form a sort of union and workiing together have regular meetings - educate the public in what their methods and motives are, the low impact on the environment - compare there affects on the environment to the politically motivation effects of the likes of Macraes who bought Department of Constipation off thus proving that the Department is NOT interested in COnservation at all but is more interested in bowing tot he puppet strings of their political masters who in turn dance tot he tune of their offshore bankers masters.

The miners 'union' would educate the public while also actively supporting the rights of all outdoor groups, especially hikers and trampers, fishermen, family campers, hunters and their access to the great outdoors - bring the Criminally corrupt system to its knees, tell the off shore money master to get stuffed - they have been repaid quite enough under their insane fractional reserve loan system and get New Zealand back into the hands of you and I - the people of New Zealand.
