Hows it goin, I havnt had much time/urge to coinshooting recently as I have been buisy with Uni and being in Vietnam. I have managed to find these coins tho! 1892 Half crown takes the cake, 1896 3d is next then the nz silvers. Also I have attached a pic of two bullets froma whole bunch that I have found, according to lammerlaw these may be Snider bullets although he has not seen them and has only my description to go on (that means if he happend to be wrong then its not his fault). Anyway the coins come up nice and clean using my secret method (paste of salt and baking powder) what do you think.
And now....On sandy beaches and muddy soil, rings and coins await my coil!

Hi Matt - to confirm that they are most likely Snider bullets - the width of the lands is correct in relationship to the grooves, the number of grooves is correct for Snider and the dimensions as quoted are correct for Snider as well.

Their age is questionable however but could well be really old by New Zealand standards which isnt old at all depending on the soil type and the conditions where found. If in a sheltered spot with dry soil of a less acidic nature then they could be pre 1900 even. They are certainly in good order and Sniders have been used for a long time in New Zealand - they were used by the Volunteer movement, local Militia units, then later sold out of service and used by Pig Hunters and in latter years have become highly collectible. Many are still used to this day by Black powder shooters and those who like blasting with old shoulder cannons...I still keep a couple myself.

I have put on a photograph of a projectile plus three live rounds and a .22 for comparison - as you can see they are nearly big enough to sink the Bismark or the Hood depending on what side a fellows on!
