Having a good time in Franz Josef
Found a few specks in the Callery Waiho junction and wanted
to cross over to some interesting rocks to crevice but the bridge
was out and the rivers are raging torrents after the recent rain
Finding some nice fine gold at a creek at was given to me by a local
that I know
Down to just scooping the material into the pan and panning it
Averaging about a dozen specks a pan with the odd flake
Dont know how that rates in returns but Im happy with that
Guess you folks with dredges would have fun here
Will try to post some photos later on

Hi Diggerjoe, there is gold in the fox and cook rivers down that way as well.If you have a sluicebox put some of the glacial silt from behind the large boulders thru it .Sometimes you may get some quite good flakes, the same would probably apply to the waiho. These rivers shift huge amounts of sediment during floods and you never know what may turn up.Also macdonalds creek at the end of lake mapourika had quite a lot of gold in it and was worked extensively in the 1880s.
