Hi,

Im new to using metal detectors but got interested in all this after reading this forum, so i went out and brought a Garrett AT pro, the first day it sort of worked and i picked up a few 1c 2c etc, but then at times just seemed randomly "beep" so today i went out and found a few bottle tops but again it seemed to randomly "beep".
At the end of that little trip i had a play with the sensitivity, frequency and ground balance which seemed to fix the problem for a minute but then just randomly "beeps" again, so i held the detector to the sky and it was still beeping, i can place a 2$ coin in front of it and sometimes it will beep. ive also checked the tightness of coil and cables.

So can anyone help here? unit fault or Operator error?

It sounds like it is faulty if it is not performing as it did initially - take it to the dealer if uncertain - I do know that if I was in that position I would see if I could team up with another experienced detector owner near you to see what he or she had to say then act in accordance with his/her advice.

Good luck - its a bit disheartening when things go wrong - I know what thats like!

Check cables, connections. If you have a skid plate on your coil, there may be debris under it so it pays to take it off sometimes. Not all coils have them though so don't try taking your one apart by accident. Bad joss doing that.

Like Lammers said, find someone else who has one and check it out with them. Is it new or second hand? If you got it second hand, ask the fella you bought it off

Dont really want to take it back as it will be sent away for some time, and im alittle impatient with that sort of thing.

The only time my ATGOLD falses is under power lines and even then it's more chatter than beeping.

Take out your coil cable and make sure it is wound nice and close to the shaft a really loose cable can cause erratic behavior. Make sure you don't push out that rubber o-ring in the connector as if it pops out on one side it grabs on the inner wall of the connector making it difficult to screw it back together. After turning on your machine hold down the power button for about 5 seconds, you should hear a double beep that means it has been reset to factory. Find a spot outside with no signals and re ground balance (I use auto gb).

I use sensitivity at 3/4 - batteries don't seem to make much difference but I change mine regardless at 1/2 power.

hope this helps
