Hi guys, Drunkenbrother. As stated, DETECTED gold. I run an older model Minelab GP3000. which is a pulse induction detector & not a VLF. 4 generations old now but still a very capable detector & the mother board & circuitry is probably still very similalr, if not the same as the latest. The latest have a digital menu & progamming read out with those detectors having more user adjustable fine tuning & sensitive timing options that are internaly factory set in my model. From what I understand these extra fine tuning adjustment are a lot more benefical to our cousins across the ditch in there much more heavily mineralised soils. In NZ not so much of an advantage as our soils are very mild compared to theres.
Madsonicboating, Thanks for your kind words. It appears that my many hours of research & time out in the field following up on that research has paid off for me in the last few years. Both down south & up here in the Coromandel. Truth is, no gold is easy gold. It isnt always about the gold or the having of the gold. It is also about the finding of the gold & the adventures it takes you on, the beautiful places it takes you to & the whole journey. The people you meet, gold of another kind. You will know what l mean, as I have seen a few of your clips & adventures. All good fun, even if little to no gold is found. If you keep at & do the time you will be rewarded. Law of averages I guess. Good luck out there.
Simon, I was going to contact you when in QT but I only really flew in & flew out from QT & spent no time there. Picked up my rental car & I was off down country. The gold I found was an assortment from 5 different places. 4 of them being either in creeks or working high & dry old river terrace deposits. So those are the water worn pieces you will see amongst that lot. The rough, shotty, dirty quartzy looking gold is from high up on a mountain side. It is here that I am trying to source the reef that it came from. It is big country out there. So here is hoping...one day. Funny thing is I also found a few water worn pieces up there as well. So two different lots of deposits.
I hear from Rex that you & he did some time up Macetown way. That would have been a hell of a walk & a hard day out. Shame you werent rewarded. As I said to Rex, I know a chap who spent a few days up there. Camped out over a long weekend & gave those hills a good looking over. He is no slouch with a detector & he too found nothing. Gosh....you would have to think there is gold coming down from up there somewhere. Especially with all the hard rock mining done there as well as the alluvial.
Weather was pretty radical with hot, cold, heavy rain & wind. Had 63mm in just over 24 hours one day. Unheard of in these parts. Even had snow down to the valley floor on 27th january. Locals couldnt recall in there living memory of snow here at that time of the year.
Detecting slope with snow
Good luck out there & happy hunting
Regards
John :)
