Love those guys from the UK. I'm off to watch their xmas special I acquired on DVD right now. My silver weigh today was 597 grams. Over 1/2 kilo silver coins finally! This is up from 425 grams a couple of weeks ago. Included in this is 130 grams of .925 english silver pre 1920 coins and the rest is NZ 1934 to 1946 which is 50% silver. The jump in silver coins found over two weeks is all due St Kilda beach, Dunedin giving up its treasure with coastal errosion! My overall target is to get the equivalent of 1 kilo of silver melt. Then I'm gong to sell it as a kilo lot on trade me and use the cash to buy a new minelab 705 or something. Maybe a Fisher though as minelab is bloody expensive.

Cool. Let me know when you get here. I am duty bound to spend time with my lovely wife and five kids, hence is why I skive off so late at night with headlamp and spade, but I would love to meet you guys and check out your metal detectors. Frankly I have never had the opportunity to try another machine other than my minelab sovereign GT. Send me a message closer to the time and we'll meet up. Hopefully the three of us could try a couple of spots together.

Of 50% silver coins?

Ignoring refining expenses, about $2940.

5kg = 176.37oz
1933 to 1946 siver coins = 50% silver thus 5kg of coins = 88.19 oz of bullion
currently Silver = $36.67NZ / oz
88.19 x 36.67 = $3233.93

But for silver the refining costs will be approximately half to 2/3rds (guess on my part) thus the 5kg should net $1600 - $2000.

Andy- your detector hit the jackpot this morning??? :)

Anyone accepting that price is getting ripped off severely.

Shopping around will get you a far better deal than half or two thirds.
This company in Birmingham UK are probably just about the best payers and their website has a calculator for you to put in the purity and weight.
Today, they are paying 1420.03 GB pounds for 5 kg of 50/50 coins which equates to $NZ 2766.82.

It's amazing how much the silver from coins builds up. I did a quick calc last night and allowing for the 50% ones I have roughly 23 troy ounces-if my math is correct!
There's another to find and I'm gunna find it!
