I must print out all these posts with coordinates one day and take another trip over there. Next trip is to the general Motueka area so if you have any good stories from up that way Kiwikeith, I'd be happy to hear them.
The trip after the Motueka trip (3 weeks) will be to the coast for sure though.

heres a hint on where to find gold in your area
this is a wall of my office one large map with pins in it where i find colour another colour pin for where i have been told there is gold get a length of cotton and string between pins to see if they form a line if they do try the creek between the pins on the line it seems to work also refer to the geology maps in the back of the "geological map 1:250000 " book put out by "geological & nuclear sciences" its a great read with a wealth of imformation cost me $34.90 from mapping world in chch you get the one covering the area you want to visit
once you have the map you then refer to the area with gold cross referenceing with the rock type on the map then again back to the wall map to see if there are other areas worth visiting

dont know if you can follow all this but to me it helps and works

edit note: the photos show things my wife and i do
hang gliding, gold mining, tramping, climbing 4wd ing and our yatch (now sold had to many toys)

NELSON CREEK

i met a guy on mon or tus, came round to my friends house where im staying he had $7000 in his pocket not to bad for a 4 day stint. he has a 6" keen dredge with twin motors and working the nelson creek area on his mates claim he also showed me the photos where he was sucking and the bucket of that days wash it had 1/2 oz in it

this guy liked a patch of river so found out who had the claim and approached the guy who had the big toys eg 70ton digger etc cut a long story short he was given permision to dredge moral of the story "ask and you will recieve"

he was a surveyor on the coast 1865 to 1866 and wrote letters home to his wife

BRUCE BAY
there was good gold down there up the makawiho river according to gerhand the only reason they pulled out was the lack of supplies kept running out of food
saying how he lived on mussels eels and fern for 3 weeks because the seas were to rough for ships to drop of supplies
gold was fetching 3-15-0 thats $7.50 per oz

OKARITO LAGOON
"pays well with the average minner mining 2 oz per day"
seems that most of okarito was mainly beach sands

hes now in hoki so will read more and let you all know where to go next
