Maybe? I am sure someone out there will come up with a possible cause, I am new also so not a lot of help. Good luck sorting it. just a thought are you using earphones? if so how long is the cord, the mighty F4 isn't picking that up by any chance?

No, that's my next job, finding some good cheap headphones.

Can confirm the "unidentified coin" is a Post Office lead seal.

F4 noise could be if the cable is too loosely wrapped down near the coil. Give a bit of a loop to allow coil adjustment, then strap that sucker up tight up the shaft.

Nice finds so far!

That it is, a NZ Post bag seal. I have found quite a few of them.
Hope you sus that beeping problem out. It's a long shot but i have found nearby powerlines to cause continuous beeping. Just a thought.

Hi Guys, bit of an update

I have not been detecting the last couple of days because my cheapo rechargeable 9v batteries died (as is won't charge again), so I have made an adapter for the F4 to accept AA batteries. Considering an alkaline 9v has about 500mAh, and an alkaline AA has about 2000mAh...

I am hoping to get around 32 hours off 12 AA batteries (two lots of 6 AA's = 9v each). I have emailed Fisher, and the F4 will work with voltages down as far as 6.5v, so 12 rechargeable's will also work (two lots of 6 rechargeable AA's = 7.2v each), although using 14 rechargeables (7 & 7) will also work, and show full power on the display.

Photos for those who are interested (yes those are the old rechargeable's now as dummys):

And hopefully this also solves the beeping problem somehow

Still having the beeping problems again today... Same spot where it has been fine before, and I know there is no metal in the ground - I think there my be some kinda physical defect, does anyone know if there is somewhere I can send it to get it check out? Does Fisher do servicing?

* Different sensitivity make no difference.
* Gently tapping the unit while stationary can cause it to beep (you can imagine swinging it), the display shows random numbers
* Turning the unit on / off makes no difference once it is in one of its 'fits'
* Different types of batteries makes no difference.
* Doesn't seem to do it when coil is disconnected, rather gives infrequent beeps with no coil connected.
* All metals, discrimination, and pinpoint modes all affected.

I have made sure the wire going to the coil is well out of the way, and neatly wound around the detector shaft. The coil itself looks fine, with no obvious damage, or pinched cable. When it snaps out of one of its 'fits', it functions normally.

So :-(
