Good stuff clarky i reckon you get more enjoyment out of some thing you build with your own hands all my sluice boxes have been home made all were wood but my latest one is aluiminium with wooden riffles seems to work great and not to heavy.

My current one is exactly the same as the one above except that I have smaller steel riffles closer together- in my hut creek and on the creeks on my place thats all I need - in fact its perfect. There is only one criteria when it comes to the crunch and that is that it traps the gold efficiently.

Hi Cavey, Have returned from my first sojourn down to Danseys. However I did not locate any of the gold stuff! It was a brilliant day down there, exceptionally fresh but all good. Tried panning in three or four different locations along the river but to no avail. There was a couple of guys at the top end of the river going hard out with a dredge with the motor on a floating platform! Didn,t get down to chat with them but one guy in particular was working hard out shovelling shingle!! I enjoyed my day out down there and even managed to catch a trout in the Waitaki on the way home

Well, I guess I'll have to bite the bullet and buy soon a decent detector for the next trip down south. I plan to spend around 5 or 6 months fossicking. Given the amount of time I'll be putting into it, I've decided to go with a good detector, such as the Mindlab Xterra. The next decision is whether to buy new or second hand?..... import or local? Any ideas guys? My budget is around NZD $2000, $3000.

Hi clarky, from what i have read on your post i would say you are after a fisher gold bug or similar..it is dedicated to gold but is also a very good all rounder.
i agree with the other guy..get ahold of RgMcbrid on this forum..he is from down your way and he has plenty of fisher to chose from including the gold bug, goldbug pro, goldbug DP,and goldbug 2

Clarky what part of dansy's did you pan at..i go right there at the camp grounds and get gold every time..but i dont pan right in the river.
i dig a hole about a foot or 2 from the edge of the water and have neve missed getting gold...and it is the same if you go abit further up to the bridge..not right in the water but just off the edge.

Hi nzpoohbear40

Whats the camp ground like would it be a good place to take the wife there so she could relax and i could do a bit of panning . Are you allowed to go gold panning and are you alowed to use a small sluice box.

Thanks Cavey
