I met mike many years ago and it was on the tadmore!!!! he was just 1 of the many dredgers on the river at the time he knew damn well it was an area wher all the locals go and stepped on their toes and claimed it.
there are areas like that in most districts and if anyone were to claim them then i dont think they have a sh*t show of stopping the regulars unless you could get a pigger to sit on the bank and wait.
Some interesting points come out here because yes guys do go and take out claims on rivers where many many people used to fossick for gold with each and every one of them having an equal chance of picking up some and then someone comes along and often a new comer and interlopes on them by claiming the entire area for them self. To me that is arrogance and unfair and if the locals keep going there to where they had traditionally gone then to be honest I sympathize with them.
I look at the Arrow and think that the government should have made that entire river a 'State Public Fossicking River' as so many people just love going there and as such I think that to claim it is wrong BUT under the existing system if Number one doesnt claim it then as sure as eggs are eggs number two will! For that reason I have no objection to anyone claiming an area PROVIDING they allow others to fossick using hand held methods only.
We had three claims and not once ever did we refuse the right of anyone to go there to have a look for gold - the only reason we claimed them was NOT to stop others going there but was to secure our own rights to be able to go there. One of htose claims is claimed now by a party who approached us to ask if they could go there and we happily said yes - sadly I had NOT finished there and to this day know where there is good gold but I simply dont ask others if I can go on their claim.
If what you say is right and this Mike guy stepped on the toes of others then somehow I dont blame them for continuing to go where they always went. Two wrongs dont make a right and so I guess that a bit of soul searching is needed before you claim where others go an dif you do then I think you should come to an amicable agreement to allow them to continue.
