A lot of the guys used solar generators to recharge batteries, etc.

4wd... to be honest a lot of the tracks we went down would have been fine with a vehicle with fairly good clearance. Wasn't any gnarly ground we covered apart from one shortcut we could have easily avoided. Though if it rains you'd be buggered as all the red dust will just turn to red mud.

70 series land cruiser has to be top choice in any bush environment, you can get a roof tent that keeps you well away from insects and crawlies, a good lockable container fixed to the car is also good for important stuff as some of the guys that go walkabout tend to help themselves to gear, why did you chose west oz? If I was to go back I would head towards mount Isa again...

I'd be opting for a nice comfortable campervan with solar and A/C!

It might pay to take some gum boots and a fire extinguisher, based on recent events over there

Been going over to WA for 6 years, missed last year though. Hopeing to head over again this year mid June to end Sept. We have a 6mtr mazda moterhome and end up doing arround 10000km in that time for arround 4 to 6 oz of the good stuff. We have CB radio contact between base camp and myself, sat phone, GPS is a must as when you are in the zone you lose yourself easily. Carry plenty of water and a flynet head cover(they are great for trapping flies inside). You need a miners licience $25 for a lifetime. available from the department of mines, who are also very helpfull for getting maps from, telling you where you can and cannot go. The detector shops in Perth have some cheep area related books on where old working were. One of the most helpful books is the Gold & ghosts in two editions for WA, trouble is if you can get them they are around $700 per book.I was detecting way outback when a guy i met offered me a copy on a flashdrive.Ph no in profile. probably not all that legal.Dont be to put off, common sense is your most valuable tool. you never know we may cross paths out there somewhere. hope this is of some help

http://www.treasureenter...ons_within_Australia.htm

Also I have bought several times from this guy, just parts for my minelab. He has retired and is selling stuff at remainder prices.

cheers
